About

The ultimate aim of Pittsburg State University's Spirit Squad is to lend their support to the University's intercollegiate sports programs, while also promoting school spirit throughout the community. They strive to act as positive representatives of both the University and the community by participating in various programs and events.

The Spirit Squad works collaboratively to achieve excellence in their performances, with the ultimate goal of competing at the national level. Their hard work and dedication have paid off in the past, with notable achievements such as winning the 2000-01 NCAA Division II National Championship and placing third at both the 2014-15 NCAA Division II ESPN College Championships in Orlando, Florida and the most recent 2022-23 Championships!

Furthermore, the University takes great pride in their unique mascot, Gus the Gorilla. Linda Graham serves as the current coach of the Spirit Squad.

Are you a future Gorilla?

A gameday first, large co-ed, and UCA Division II nationally-ranked team; Pittsburg State University Cheerleading has a storied tradition that dates back to the 1930s. We are always looking for forward-thinking, adaptable, and selfless student athletes to carry on this tradition. If you were to ask alumni and current team members what defines a Gorilla cheerleader, it would be camaraderie. As a member of the Pitt Cheer squad, you will find that success is not a measure of your accomplishments, but a measure of the team's overall success; not only for gameday and for competition.
